Digital Desk: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for questioning in a money laundering case.

The Chief Minister, who is being investigated by the ED in an illegal mining case, has been asked to appear at the ED's Ranchi office on August 14 to record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Last November, the Chief Minister ignored the ED summons and traveled to Chhattisgarh to attend a dance festival instead. Speaking about his decision to skip his interrogation and attend the festival that had been planned in advance, Soren slammed the investigative agency for giving him such short notice to appear. "Are we thieves or anti-socials?" he asked while speaking to NDTV.

Hemant Soren is being probed for money laundering in connection with an illegal mining case in Jharkhand's Sahebganj district.

The Chief Minister, who also heads the state mining ministry, has been accused of breaking election rules by granting himself a mining lease in 2021.

Soren, on the other hand, has denied any wrongdoing and claimed it was part of a bigger plan to "harass a tribal leader."
