Digital Desk: Accepting defeat in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur presented his resignation to the governor on Thursday, according to official sources. They said that the governor had accepted his resignation.
"I have submitted my resignation to the Governor. Will never stop working for people's progress. We need to analyze things. There were some difficulties that shifted the results' direction. If they call us, I'll go to Delhi," said Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur.
The decision came simultaneously with the Congress bagging 39 seats in the hill state. Changing its government every five years was still a tradition in Himachal Pradesh. In order to establish a government, a party must win 35 seats, and the BJP has won 26 of them in Himachal. The BJP-led government was forced to resign on Thursday after failing to gather the required votes.
Accepting the public's decision, CM Thakur stated that he would need to analyze what went wrong. Notably, Thakur won the election for his Siraj
Taking to Twitter, Thakur wrote, "We accept the mandate with humility. Special thanks to the respected Prime Minister and the central government for their valuable cooperation in the last five years. Thanks for the five years given by the people of the state for service. We will always be ready for the all-around development of Himachal."
Meanwhile, three independent candidates won. They include two former BJP leaders, and the other was a Congress leader.
