Dalai Lama attended the Global Buddhist Summit on Friday and addressed a group of monks and other delegates gathered here for the two-day event.
He lectured for around 30 minutes, focusing on Buddhist philosophy and principles.
The inaugural session of the first-ever summit was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
In his speech, Modi stated that the world is facing challenges such as conflict, economic insecurity, terrorism, religious extremism, and climate change and that Lord Buddha's views offer a solution to these issues.
The summit is divided into two sections: academic sessions and Sangha sessions.
In accordance with an official source, the press was only permitted to attend the initial session; the remaining sessions were not accessible to the public.
The source did confirm, however, that the Dalai Lama attended the summit on Friday morning and spoke to the assembled monks and other delegates.
''The Tibetan spiritual guru spoke of compassion, knowledge, and meditation in his near half-hour address,'' he said.
The three ideals are central to Lord Buddha's teachings and the ideology preached by His holiness, Dalai Lama.
Planners stated at a press conference here on Monday that an invitation had been made to the Dalai Lama, but it had not been verified whether he would attend the event.
The Union Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), is hosting the conference from April 20 to 21 at The Ashok Hotel.
