    Digital Desk: According to the Union Health Ministry, India recorded a massive increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with 7,830 infections, the largest in 223 days (nearly seven months).

    The number of active cases has surpassed 40,000. There are now 40,215 active cases in the country. According to data from the health ministry website, the daily positivity rate was 3.65% and the weekly positivity rate was 3.83%.

    The death toll from the disease has risen to 5,31,016 with 16 new fatalities reported in Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, and one each in Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, according to data updated at 8 a.m.

    The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country was 4.47 crore (4,47,76,002), according to the report.

    On September 1 of last year, the country saw an increase of 7,946 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

    According to the health ministry website, the number of active cases now accounts for 0.09 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate is at 98.72 percent.

    According to the data, the number of patients who have recovered from the sickness has risen to 4,42,04,771, with a case fatality rate of 1.19 percent.

    MASK RULE RETURNS IN MANY STATES

    Separately, the Chandigarh administration issued an advise advising residents to closely follow Covid-related "dos and don'ts" in public places, including wearing masks in crowded areas and closed settings.

    In Delhi, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj advised anyone suffering from flu-like symptoms to wear masks and avoid going out in public.

    "Delhi is an extremely densely populated city." The number of cases will increase, and many people will experience flu-like and influenza-like symptoms such as fever and cough. "However, they will recover," he said.

    "People with such symptoms should avoid going out in public." If such areas must be visited, people should wear masks and follow other safety precautions to avoid infecting others, according to the minister.

    The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made the usage of face masks mandatory for employees, patients, and visitors in all civic-run hospitals in Mumbai.

    The city council also urged individuals over the age of 60 to wear face masks in crowded places as a preventive measure, even if it is not required.

    The mask mandate for civic hospitals has been reinstated as a precautionary measure, according to a BMC press release issued during a coronavirus review meeting led by municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal at the civic offices in south Mumbai.
