Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna suspended from JD(S) over sexual assault video case

President of the party's core committee GT Devegowda praised the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) probe into Prajwal.

Digital Desk: The Janata Dal (Secular) on Tuesday suspended Karnataka MP and NDA candidate Prajwal Revanna from the Hassan constituency. Following its Hubbali core committee meeting, JD(S) made the announcement. Revanna is accused in a sexual assault video case.

President of the party's core committee GT Devegowda praised the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) probe into Prajwal.

"We welcome the SIT probe against Prajwal Revanna. We have made the decision to suggest to the national president of our party that he be suspended from the party until the SIT investigation is finished," stated Devegowda.

Based on a complaint from their former house helper, Karnataka police filed criminal charges and filed a sexual harassment case against Prajwal and his father, JD(S) MLA and former minister HD Revanna, on Sunday.

The BJP-JD(S) alliance's candidate for the Hassan constituency, which went to polls in the second round of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, is 33-year-old Prajwal.

In the meantime, the Karnataka police have been asked to provide a report to the National Commission for Women (NCW) within three days about the claims of videotapes of Prajwal Revanna being abused sexually.

In response to the widespread distribution of graphic videos on social media showing Revanna reportedly abusing numerous women sexually, the NCW wrote to the Karnataka DGP to bring attention to the issue.

The accused has escaped the country, and the commission called for swift and firm action to bring him back. The commission stressed how critical it is to protect women's safety and dignity and stop a culture that encourages violence and disrespect against them from continuing.

"The Commission strongly condemns the incident and is deeply disturbed by its occurrence. Such events not only endanger women's safety but also foster a culture of disrespect and violence against them. We urge prompt and decisive action from the concerned Police Authority to swiftly apprehend the accused, who has fled the country," the letter read.
