UP Elections: Azad Samaj Party Chief to meet Akhilesh Yadav today, Know Why
Digital Desk: Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad is likely to meet Akhilesh Yadav today in Uttar Pradesh amid Samajwadi Party's (SP) push to form a challenging alliance for the UP elections.

According to sources, the alliance discussions between the two parties are in the final phase. Backing the privileges of Dalits, other backward sections of the society, and minorities, the Azad Samaj Party is cast as a feasible option to Mayawati-led BSP.

Last year, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi and his ally Om Prakash met Azad in Lucknow to urge him to join Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha. However, this alliance proved a non-starter after Rajbhar joined forces with SP.

Currently, the Azad Samaj Party president is yet to announce his disposition of mind. However, a day earlier, all the alliance associates of SP met at the latter's Janeshwar Mishra Trust office in Lucknow to discuss poll preparations.

Former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav has launched on a statewide tour as a part of his "Samajwadi Vijay Yatra" to direct a comeback in the state.

The Uttar Pradesh election will occur in 7 phases starting February 10, whereas the results will be announced on March 10.
