IRCTC Scam: TROUBLE for Tejashwi Yadav, CBI takes big step
In July 2017, the CBI filed a case against the Lalu Yadav family and other suspects. A charge sheet was submitted by the agency in April 2018 following a 12-month investigation.

Digital Desk: The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has expanded its cabinet, and Tejashwi Yadav is the new deputy chief minister. On the one hand, the CBI is making plans to make RJD's difficulties worse as the stage is being set for the swearing-in of ministers in Patna. The CBI wants the IRCTC hotel scam trial to move along quickly.

The CBI named Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Rabri Devi as defendants in this case in its charge sheet. In addition to these, 11 additional identities have also been listed as suspects in this scam. Four years ago, the agency filed a charge sheet in the Special CBI Court, but the discussion of overcharging, in this case, has not even started.

The defendant, in this case, petitioned the Delhi High Court in February 2019 to contest the CBI's conduct. He had claimed that the organization had not sought the government's consent before mentioning his name in the case. He had to because at the time the crime was committed, he was working for the government. This was the foundation for the CBI court's refusal to take the charge sheet under consideration. After hearing his plea, the Delhi High Court granted Vinod Kumar Asthana's request to be excused from appearing in the trial court. Following this, two additional defendants who were also employed by the government submitted a comparable application. As a result, the trial was postponed, and up until this point, the claims, in this case, had not been argued.

According to media reports, the CBI requested a decision on Asthana's petition in a filing last week to the Delhi High Court. In addition, the CBI had stated that it might stipulate that charges would only be drafted in accordance with the outcome of Asthana's motion. But it should be permitted to begin the discussion of the allegations right away.

In July 2017, the CBI filed a case against the Lalu Yadav family and other suspects. A charge sheet was submitted by the agency in April 2018 following a 12-month investigation.

Actually, Lalu Prasad Yadav served as the UPA government's Railway Minister in 2004 when this case first surfaced. Tejashwi, Rabri Devi, and Lalu Prasad Yadav are charged in this case. According to rumours, these individuals altered the guidelines for the IRCTC hotel tender and allocation, and the entire procedure was carried out improperly. The CBI claims that Lalu Prasad Yadav met the Chanakya and Suraj hotel proprietors in Patna via IRCTC representatives. People from the businesses connected to Lalu and Rabri were also present during this meeting.
