JNU Report Highlights Impact of Illegal Immigration on Delhi's Demographics and Economy
The JNU study also reveals the environmental and infrastructural challenges posed by migrant settlement...

Digital Desk: A Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) research paper named Illegal Immigrants to Delhi: Analysing Socio-economic and Political Consequences has emerged before the Delhi Assembly elections to address the social and political and economic effects of illegal immigration in Delhi. The demographic composition of Delhi-NCR has drastically changed because of population movements from Bangladesh and Myanmar as evidenced in the "notable increase of Muslim population." The surge in illegal settlement has simultaneously overloaded systems while making criminal operations grow larger by attracting new members.

Political support for undocumented immigrants continues toward facilitating voter registration although this practice raises serious doubts about democratic electoral integrity. Illicit immigration intensifies public health threats because migrant settlements maintain excessive crowding together with unhygienic conditions that spread infectious disease outbreaks. Exceptional circumstances become more challenging to manage because undocumented migrants lack access to official emergency relief programs during crisis situations.

The border between India and Bangladesh remains an unsolvable problem for illegal immigration management because insufficient border procedures enable continuous migration. The document attacks India for not having a clear immigration policy which obstructs solutions for controlling illegal migration. The flow of migrants encounters social hostility which hinders their acceptance in Delhi's social framework and causes social conflict to rise.

The JNU research demonstrates that migrant residential areas create environmental and structural problems through their improper garbage handling methods thus damaging both the atmosphere and public wellness. The increase of criminal organizations that exploit weak migrants through criminal operations of smuggling and trafficking has become widespread. The report advocates for enhanced data collection about migration patterns since better policies depend on these statistics.

BJP MP Sambit Patra has denounced the AAP government by accusing it of being key to illegal migrant entry. AAP representative Priyanka Kakkar has criticized the Home Minister about how Rohingyas came to settle in India by placing responsibility on the Union government.
