Digital Desk: A deadly blast at an ordnance factory in Bhandara district of Maharashtra on Friday morning took eight people's lives. Seven others were also injured when the roof of the factory's RK Branch section collapsed due to the explosion at around 10 am, according to reports. The authorities informed that the rescue and medical teams have been deployed to the site and rescue operations are underway with firefighters and ambulances.
The blast was so severe that people of nearby villages up to 5 km away could feel it. Several videos of the explosion are also doing the rounds on social media. Fire department personnel and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have also been deployed at the site.
Addressing a press conference in Nagpur, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, "Preliminary reports say that eight people had been killed and seven others were injured in the blast."
Taking to X, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote in Marathi, "Reports indicate 13 to 14 workers were trapped after the roof collapsed in the explosion. Five have been safely rescued. Medical teams have been kept on standby for assistance."
Criticizing the central government Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole said, "This is the failure of the Modi Government."
A district official said to a news agency, "After the accident blast in Ordnance Factory Jawahar Nagar Bhandara, firefighters, and ambulances have been dispatched to the spot, and rescue operation is currently underway. A roof has collapsed which is being removed with the help of JCB."
The reason behind the explosion has not been confirmed. An investigation into the matter is underway.
