Digital Desk: Nine Indian nationals were killed in a road accident near Jizan, in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. The Indian consulate in Jeddah confirmed the tragic incident and assured to provide all possible support to their families during this tough time.
According to reports, the accident took place when a bus carrying more than 25 workers collided with a trailer in Asir province, south of Mecca. Nine Indians were among the 15 workers killed in the terrific road accident, while others sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital. The other six workers killed in the accident were from Nepal and Ghana.
Taking to X, the Indian diplomatic mission said, "We deeply mourn the tragic loss of 9 Indian nationals in a road accident, near Jizan, in the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
Offering condolences to the families of the deceased, the Consulate added, "Our heartfelt condolences to the families affected. The Consulate General of India in Jeddah is providing full support and is in touch with the authorities and families. We also wish a speedy recovery to the injured. A dedicated helpline has been set up for further queries."
Replying to the Indian Consulate's X post, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar wrote in X, "Grieved to learn of this accident and the loss of lives. Spoke with our Consul General in Jeddah, who is in touch with the concerned families. He is extending fullest support in this tragic situation."
