Digital Desk: The new post of the 26th Governor of the RBI has been provided to Sanjay Malhotra. The central government, in an official communication, said that he will be taking up the governor’s duties from Thursday. It is expected to last for three years. On Monday, Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed as the 26th RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Governor, succeeding Shaktikanta Das.
Earlier, Malhotra was the Secretary of the Department of Revenue; now he is appointed as the special governor for the fisheries industry. Before that, he served as Secretary in the Department of Financial Services. He has a career experience of 33 years, where in his career he has served in many administrative capacities in different ministries of power, finance, income tax, and information technology, as well as mines. In his capacity as the director-general of the Revenue Department, he contributed to the final decisions on all tax-related decisions in the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2023-24.
Malhotra is a 1990 IAS officer-batch from the Rajasthan cadre; he has a B.Tech. degree in computer science from IIT Kanpur. Further, he has his postgraduate degree in Public Policy from Princeton University in New Jersey in the United States of America.
Indian-origin Malhotra will replace current RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, who has been heading the 25th RBI bank. Das assumed the office on December
12, 2018, and his term ends today, that is, December 10. Finally, in this regard, Sanjay Malhotra will assume the formal position of the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
