Updates on Cyclone Asani: The storm unlikely to make landfall in next 24 hours

Updates about India's Heatwave. Cyclone Asani is not expected to make landfall in India. It is predicted to weaken in the next 24 hours and become a cyclonic storm.

Digital Desk: Cyclone force winds Asani are located approximately 260 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 300 kilometres South of Visakhapatnam and 490 kilometres to the south-southwest from Gopalpur, Odisha. Puri, Odisha is 570 kilometres to the south-southwest.

Cyclone Asani is heading northwest at 10 kph and is expected to hit the northern Andhra coast and the adjacent Odisha coastline tonight.

After that, Cyclone Asani will likely recurve northwards and move into the northwest Bay of Bengal. It is located off the coast of Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh. It is unlikely that it will reach landfall, and, in the next 24 hours, it will likely turn into a cyclonic hurricane.

The weather system will bring moderate to heavy rainfall to coastal Andhra Pradesh. In isolated areas, it could also produce heavy to very heavy rains. Heavy rains are expected to fall in isolated parts of coastal Odisha starting Thursday evening.
