Digital Desk: The Sadar Hills Kangpokpi Committee for Tribal Unity (CoTU) declared its decision to implement an "indefinite economic blockade" along National Highway 2 and National Highway 37 in Manipur beginning November 15 at midnight.
The decision to establish an indefinite economic blockade was made by the CoTU today at the Kuki-Zo women's sit-in-protest in Gamgiphai in Kangpokpi district.
Previously, the CoTU's 48-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district demanded the unconditional release of two Kuki-Zo held by Manipur police in connection with the disappearance of two Meitei youngsters.
The Kuki-Zo women's sit-in protest at Gamgiphai on Tuesday sought the unconditional release of two Kuki-Zo individuals, Lhunkhosei Chongloi and Satgougin Hangshing, by the relevant authorities.
They said that the two were arrested on false charges in connection with the kidnapping of two Arambai Tenggols in Kanglatongbi.
Speaking about the incident, Lhunkhosei Chongloi's elder sister stated that the couple had gone to drop their uncle off in Dimapur for medical treatment and were caught on their way back to Kangpokpi.
She stated that the state government was fast to take action against the Kuki-Zo communities, but no action has been taken in response to the murder of four Kuki-Zo family members in broad daylight by the Meitei communities.
Additionally, CoTU strongly denounced the alleged indifference of the relevant authority in enforcing law and order in Kuki-Zo-populated regions.
It noted that the Committee on Tribal Unity has been advocating for a genuine resolution on several issues, but its demands have been continually rejected.
"Therefore, the Committee calls for an indefinite economic blockade with effect from midnight of November 15 along the two National Highway - 2 and NH-37", stated as per the statement.
It went on to say that the unconditional release of the two innocent Kuki-Zo is required due to illegal incarceration and the impartial implementation of law and order in a democratic setting.
