    Top tribal body calls for complete shutdown in Churachandpur district amid violence in Manipur

    Digital Desk: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) declared a total shutdown in the Churachandpur regions of Lonphai, Khousabung, Kangvai, and Sugnu on August 31.


    The main tribal authority claimed in a statement that the Lonphai, Khousabung, Kangvai, and Sugnu districts are under attack. Furthermore, ITLF demands an urgent emergency shutdown in the Churachandpur district.


    However, emergency services such as medical, police, water, power, and the press are prohibited.


    Earlier on August 29, more violence erupted in Manipur, with one person dead and heavy shooting reported from the Khoirentak district. 


    Following reports, the event occurred at 10:00 a.m. on August 29 when miscreants invaded the Kuki-Zo villages in the Khoirentak area.


    According to sources, the local volunteers returned with heavy fire in reaction to the onslaught. One community volunteer was killed in the incident identified as Jangminlun Gangte, s/o Mangkholien Gangte, was 30 years old when he died.
