Digital Desk: In a significant step towards fulfilling the promise of providing one lakh government jobs to the youth of Assam, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday presided over the ceremonial distribution of appointment letters to 62 Assistant Engineers (Civil) under the Water Resources Department.

The event took place at the "I" block at the Assam Secretariat Complex.

Speaking at the event, CM stated, "We have been working tirelessly since May 2021 to fulfil our promise of creating one lakh government jobs. With the distribution of appointment letters to these 62 Assistant Engineers, the total appointments now stand at 87,782."

Sarma emphasized the government's ongoing initiatives by bringing up the recently released job postings that seek candidates for over 3,000 positions in the Health department and over 5,000 positions in the Assam Police.

Additionally, plans exist to fill 10,000 positions in the Education department as well as an extra 8,000 positions in the Grade III and Grade IV categories. With this commitment, more than 25,000 government jobs will be filled soon, ultimately fulfilling the promise of providing over one lakh government jobs that was promised during the Assam Assembly election campaign.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the significant shift in the employment scenario, particularly in the engineering sector, compared to a decade ago when engineering graduates faced limited opportunities in the government sector. He expressed confidence that this new generation of engineers, recruited solely based on merit, will play a crucial role in creating a self-motivated and dedicated workforce, committed to public welfare.

In contrast to ten years ago, when engineering graduates had few options in the public sector, the Chief Minister recognized the notable change in the job landscape, especially in the engineering field. He stated his optimism that this new generation of engineers, who are being hired only based on merit, will be instrumental in producing a self-driven and devoted workforce that is devoted to the common good.

Sarma emphasized the vital role that engineers play in the Water Resources department, particularly in the government's attempts to lessen the effects of floods in areas of the state that are vulnerable to flooding. He emphasized the need to keep embankments in place before the monsoon and looked at ways to use the powerful Brahmaputra's unrealized potential for the benefit of the general populace.

Speaking to the recently hired engineers, the Chief Minister urged them to retain a strong work ethic while bringing new and creative ideas to their departments. Along with warning them against unethical behaviour, he emphasized the significance of respecting the morals and integrity of their departmental seniors.

Minister Pijush Hazarika of the Water Resources Department, Minister of Education Dr. Ranoj Pegu, and Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, S. Abbasi, were also present at the event.
