AASU stages protest demanding more seats in colleges: Duliajan

Duliajan: On Saturday, the Dibrugarh District organization of All Assam Students Union's (AASU) staged protests at all local units in support of their requirements to expand the number of seats in all the institutes and higher secondary schools of the district to promote all HSLC and HS-passed learners at least a seat.

"To give every passed-out student a seat in higher secondary or graduate level, each educational establishment should make certain agreements to expand the number of seats."

"As the number of HSLC and HS examination-cleared students increases this year, it is the principal duty of the Government of Assam to provide institutional facilities inside higher secondary and graduate-level establishments to every learner,'' said the memorandum of the Duliajan unit of AASU.

The student body presented the memorandum to Education Minister Ranoj Pegu as well.

Members of the Duliajan unit of AASU additionally staged a demonstration at Pipoltul Tiniali of Duliajan oil town. Bubul Talukdar, president, Duliajan Unit AASU, Dipangkar Gogoi, general secretary, Duliajan unit AASU, Pradip Gogoi, executive member of Dibrugarh District unit of AASU initiated the protest.

According to their number of students, the student body further asked for infrastructural improvement in each government-run higher secondary and college institution to fulfill the vacant appointment of mentors and support every 50-year-old high school to higher secondary establishments. The Duliajan unit of AASU further transferred its memorandum through the Circle officer of Tengaghat revenue circle.

Exercising the demonstration to one level higher, the Naharkatia unit of AASU burned the image of Ranoj Pegu in front of their building at Naharkatia.

Pranjal Pratim Gogoi, AASU general secretary, Naharkatia unit, said that Assam Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, has failed to take certain steps to promote all HSLC and HS passed out students a seat for higher education. Therefore he must have to endure the wrath of the student association on his failure to guarantee formal educational equity to each student.
