    Assam Book Fair: Breaks Record With  ₹7 Crores Sale And 5lakh Visitors

    Digital Desk: The 12 days Assam Book Fair has ended at Veterinary College Ground, Khanapara, Guwahati with the culmination of literary, cultural linguistic and historical programs. The event sold books which worth around ₹7 crores. The concluding session was co-organized by the Assam Publication Board and the All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association and was presided over by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Secretary of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.



    Stating the success story, Dr. Joshi said, “The kind of response received in the fair – the Assam Book Fair – holds a promising message for the society.” They are environments for knowledge Produced And thus facilitating cross linguistic communities and consequently harmony. He pointed at the stupendous sale of books and focused on the achievement of Assamese language being recognized as the classical language in 2024. Dr. Joshi also emphasized the value of preserving and also maintaining the Indigenous languages as they act as Identity binders.



    The Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta also expressed the same sentiments saying those books are the best things that human beings can have. He said, “The book has significant functions in making a healthy society.” That, the Assam Book Fair has manifested itself as an edifice of intellectual advancement and with the call to a better society in each of the years it is held. Dr. Mahanta spoke in a similar line and said that excessive use of gadgets such as mobile phones should be discouraged and the use of books as an empowering tool is encouraged.



    The session was presided over by Sumanta Chaliha, Vice-President of the Assam Publication Board, who said she was delighted to see that people have not lost their love for books. He thanked the writers, the publishers and readers for making the fair a successful event. This was agreed by Pramod Kalita, Secretary of the Assam Publication Board who thanked the government and the private sector for their support in the organization of the fair. He discussed initiatives for organizing district level book fair in 2025 as the government decided to observe the year 2025 considering as the year of book by chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.


    This year , the book  fair received over 5 lakh visitors and 118 bookstalls delivered a range of publications to the book lovers. The cultural program performed in the evening enthralled the audience and providing a perfect climax to this rich technology and cultural parade of intelligence.
