Nyay Yatra: Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah appears before police
Following the conclusion of the interrogation, it was disclosed that Borah had been called back on February 12.

Digital Desk: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah appeared before the police in Jorhat today. Borah was called in relation to a charge that was filed against him for allegedly changing the route and causing mayhem during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Gandhi was reportedly interrogated by the police for around three hours after arriving at the Jorhat Police Station today. Leader of the CLP Debabarata Saikia, Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, MLA of Titabor, a group of lawyers, and a few party workers accompanied him.

Notably, Borah had said that should he be arrested, he would not be requesting anticipatory bail.

Following the conclusion of the interrogation, it was disclosed that Borah had been called back on February 12.

"At 11:00 am, I appeared before the police. I was questioned by four police officers for three hours. I have been sent another notice to appear on February 12. Additionally, I've agreed on coming on February 12," stated Borah.

Borah added that when the Nyay Yatra arrived in Jorhat town, no police officer had informed them of any alternate routes.

"On January 18, around 4:00 pm, we reached Jorhat and saw no police officers whatsoever. According to the police, they were in civil dress. It was their responsibility to maintain control over the situation and advise us on taking any specific path. We were not led by any police officers, nor were we able to identify any.

They played a Yatra video for me today. Once again, I questioned them, "Where is their police force?" There were just two police in uniform. It was our responsibility to be guided and to be informed that police officers were dressed in civil attire. We spoke with the DGP and obtained approval from the authorities. Thus, they are to blame," Borah said.

The head of the Assam Congress added that he asked the police why the person who attacked him during the Yatra had not been charged.

"The individual who attacked me has not yet been the target of any action. Concerning the police officers who attacked me in Dispur, nothing has been done. The individual who assaulted me at Jamugurihat is still at large. Today they brought me over to the police station while I was passing by the road," stated Borah.

Bhupen Borah went on to criticize Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating that his reality has been made public and leaving him shaken.

"The Chief Minister is aware that the Assamese people are now aware of his existence. Rahul ji's discussion about his corruption infuriated him. The chief minister of Assam is the most corrupt in the nation, as Rahul ji accurately stated. He has openedly discussed the corruption that existed under his leadership, including the numerous tea gardens, resorts, private schools, TV stations, newspapers, and other establishments they had built.

The whole nation has seen how vulnerable he is. It now costs the BJP to have him around. Sarbananda Sonowal is waiting for his turn. He deflecting that anger over me now," said the APCC president.

Bhupen Borah received the notification last week from the police in accordance with CrPC Section 41(A). The IPC accusations of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, use of criminal force, and applicable charges under the PDPP Act have all been filed in this case.
