    Assam-Nagaland Border Issue: Both states decide on simultaneous withdrawal of security personnel wit

    Guwahati: In a meeting held today in the presence of the representatives of Assam and Nagaland Governments including Chief Secretaries of both states, witnessed signing of agreement at Chumukedima, Nagaland to withdraw security forces by both the states and maintain status quo at Nagajanka and Disoi Valley (Mariani) part of Assam-Nagaland border.





    Both sides agreed that in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the areas around Ao Senden village and Vikuto Village as they are unknown in Nagaland, and known as Jankhona Nala/Nagajankha and Compartment No 12, respectively in Assam, urgent and effective steps are required for defusing the stand-off between the security forces of Nagaland and Assam.





    The agreement also mentions that the both states Nagaland and Assam shall monitor the disputed area by surveillance using UAV and satellite imagery with a view to maintaining the status quo. The Superintendents of Police of the districts of Mokokchung (Nagaland) and Jorhat (Assam) shall ensure orderly withdrawal of their respective forces and shall be responsible for it in the instant case.
