Digital Desk: Guwahati Police have initiated a manhunt for Assamese actress Sumi Bora following her alleged involvement in a major money trading scam. This development comes after the arrest of Vishal Phukan, a 22-year-old accused of embezzling crores of rupees.

Phukan, who reportedly promised investors a 30% return on stock market investments within 60 days, was apprehended after extensive interrogation. His lavish spending habits included financing a high-profile destination wedding in Rajasthan and booking luxury hotels in Dubai. The police suspect that Bora, whose phone is currently switched off, fled after Phukan's arrest.

During a recent raid at a flat in Beltala, Guwahati, Bora was not located, and authorities believe she may have escaped to avoid arrest. The police are also investigating her role in the financial scandal, particularly her involvement in Phukan’s extravagant expenditures. It is alleged that Phukan spent over Rs 1 crore on Bora’s wedding.

Phukan’s arrest is part of a broader probe into financial fraud, reminiscent of the case involving Dipankar Barman. Following his arrest, police raided Phukan's flat in Dibrugarh’s Prabanjali Apartment, confiscating laptops and bags. A search at Bora’s residence in Banipur, Dibrugarh, was hampered by poor lighting conditions.

Phukan, who owned three companies and led a high-profile lifestyle, also appeared in music videos. After a medical check-up post-arrest, he is expected to be produced in court today. The investigation continues to draw public interest due to Phukan’s opulent lifestyle and Bora’s prominence in the Assamese entertainment industry.
