Digital Desk: Within the next few years, the Assam government intends to transform the Boragaon (Paschim Boragaon) dumping ground in Guwahati into a park.
GMDA Minister Ashok Singhal stated at a meeting with journalists in Guwahati that the government intends to convert the Boragaon dumpsite into a park shortly. He stated that the conversion process has begun and that every effort is being made to convert.
The minister further stated that the government has granted an Administrative Approval of Rs. 172.5 crores for the biomining of legacy trash at Paschim Boragaon.
M/S Zigma Global Environ Solutions Private Limited has been assigned a 36-month deadline to finish the project.
The completion time and all necessary machinery are now being installed.
Aside from this, turbine units have already been constructed to treat old garbage. The minister further stated that a total of 15 to 17 lakh tonnes of legacy garbage will be treated, with land reclamation completed within 36 months. The plastic discovered during this process will be burned by cement manufacturers.
The dumpsite in Paschim Boragaon has polluted the water of Guwahati's Deepor Beel. Many birds have died as a result of the waste that is placed on the site every day. The new step provides a glimpse of hope for the Deepor Beel.
