Digital Desk: The All-Assam Motor Workers Joint Council (AMWJC) called for a 24-hour chakka bandh on May 1 on Saturday.

According to an official, all commercial vehicles, including buses and taxis, would remain off the roads.

The council has also requested that all commercial vehicle owners observe the bandh beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, the council has issued a slew of demands to coincide with Labour Day.

A one-day strike has been set up for protest, with the demand for the rapid implementation of welfare packages for motor workers and the establishing of Shramik Bhawan.

They also urged that the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act of 1988 be amended and that acts that are detrimental to employees' welfare be repealed.

They also requested a halt to police brutality against motor workers, as well as money demand in the name of unlawful counters.
