Clash in Assam Assembly over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, 3 MLAs suspended
CM Sarma stood up to give his response as soon as the house was reassembled, to which all opposition members objected.

Digital Desk: The Assam Assembly was rocked on Wednesday after the Congress introduced an adjournment motion to discuss Rahul Gandhi's removal from the Lok Sabha following a court ruling.

Speaker Biswajit Daimary was forced to adjourn the House twice. For the day, he suspended two Congress MLAs and an Independent legislator.

Immediately following the conclusion of Question Hour, Daimary allowed Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia to raise the notice and asked him to speak on the motion's admissibility.

"We want to send a resolution to the President of India requesting that she uphold the Constitution. The Constitution applies equally to everyone, and the executive must act fairly to protect it," Saikia said.

He referred to various constitutional provisions concerning the disqualification of a parliamentarian. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi's disqualification violated the Constitution.

In response, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "It's unprecedented for us to express our views on a judicial matter here. I know that a decision was made last night at the Congress Legislature Party to make noise here."

All of this resulted in a raucous scene, with Congress MLAs leading the way, followed by all other opposition members from AIUDF, CPI (M), and Independent, to the House well.

They held placards and raised slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi. At the same time, BJP members rushed to the well and chanted anti-Gandhi slogans.

Following that, the speaker moved on to the next House item and allowed the various standing committee reports to be tabled. Daimary then adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

As soon as the house was reassembled, CM Sarma stood up to give his response, to which all opposition members objected.

Even after repeatedly asking Akhil Gogoi and other members to return to their seats, they paid no attention to Daimary.

As a result, Akhil Gogoi and Congress MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Jakir Hussain Sikdar were suspended from the House for the entire day. The three legislators were dragged out of the House by marshals.
