The youth festival which concluded on Sunday began on 4th January and 15 universities from across the northeast region of India participated in it.
Digital Desk: A 49-member contingent of
Cotton University brought laurels to the state of Assam by winning several
medals at the recently concluded 36th East Zone Youth festival held at
University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).
The youth festival which concluded on
Sunday began on 4th January and 15 universities from across the northeast
region of India participated in it.
The competitions in which Cotton University
bagged the first position are- Cultural Procession, Classical Vocal (solo),
Classical Instrumental Solo (percussion), Classical Instrumental Solo
(non-percussion), Western Instrumental (solo) and Folk Dance. It also secured
the second position in Indian Group Song, Western Vocal (solo), Skit and Quiz
competitions. Cotton University also stood third in Mimicry and Folk Orchestra.
Apart from winning prizes in different
categories, Cotton University also bagged the Best University title in music
section, Second Best University title in dance section, Third Best University
in theatre and literary sections and Runner-up Best University title in the
overall category. Manipur University of Culture bagged the first position in
overall category and Manipur University became the Overall Second Runner-up
team. It is noteworthy that Cotton University is the only university from the
state of Assam to rank among the top three universities in the overall
category.
Commenting on the success of Cotton
University at the youth festival, the Vice Chancellor of Cotton University,
Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka commented, ‘The results of the youth festival is a
proud moment for us. It is a testament to the fact that there is immense
potential and extraordinary talent within the students of Cotton University.
Being the VC, I feel proud that the University has been ranked among the top
three universities and the only university from Assam to be in the list in the
overall category at the youth festival. I congratulate our team and other
participating universities as well.’
The contingent of Cotton University was
led by faculty-in-charges- Dr Muktikam Hazarika, Assistant Professor,
Department of Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Cotton
University and Dr. Swapnali Das, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of
Assamese, Cotton University.
The other participating universities
were- Gauhati University, Tezpur University, Rajiv Gandhi University, Dibrugarh
University, Bodoland University, North-Eastern Hill University, ICFAI
University, Indian Institute of Information Technology, National Sports
University, USTM, Royal Global University and Dhanamanjuri University.
The Cotton University
contingent will now compete with universities from across six zones of India at
the National Youth Festival 2023 to be held during the last week of February at
Jain University Bangalore.
