Gauhati University's Communication & Journalism Department to host its first alumni meet-up on March 19

Digital Desk: On March 19, 2023, Gauhati University's Department of Communication and Journalism will host the first-ever Alumni Meet on campus.

On Tuesday, a news conference was held at the Guwahati Press Club in connection with this. Dr. Chandan Kumar Goswami, Head of the Department of Communication and Journalism and Patron of the Alumni Meet, Dr. Rabindra Sarma, General Secretary, and Dr. Nilakshi Kalita, Convener of the Alumni Meet, 2023 Publicity Committee, addressed the press conference.

"The fifty-five-year-old department had encompassed courses like Diploma (Bachelor of Communication and Journalism), PG Courses, and research," Chandan Kumar Goswami explained. As such, it will be a terrific opportunity for the department if this message can be conveyed by the people who once were a part of this Department".

He also invited all graduates to attend the meet and become involved with the department to forge a strong link between the department and its alumni.

Mr. Kishore Upadhyay, President of the planned Alumni Meet, stated in his message that the alumni meet aims to unite all students of the department since its inception in 1967. Such gatherings will inspire people to stay with the department for the rest of their lives. On the same day, he announced that a national-level lecture will be held in conjunction with the event.

He also asked the alumni to register for the event using the G-Form that had been prepared. He went on to say that there will be two requirements for becoming an alumni member. A registration fee of Rs 500 or more is required for a one-year membership, and a fee of Rs 5000 or more is required for life membership in the alumni organization. He urged all alumni to join the ceremony.

The deadline to register for the alumni meet is March 10.

Dr. Rabindra Sarma, General Secretary of the proposed Alumni Meet, briefed the session on the registration process. He further stated that a memento will be prepared in Assamese, English, and Hindi in conjunction with the meeting.
