Digital Desk: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi stressed for a caste-based census in Assam, similar to those in Bihar and Rajasthan, to ensure that all communities in the state are treated with "dignity" and "justice."
The Congress MP spoke on X about the need to guarantee that SC, ST, OBC, and other minor communities receive dignity and justice.
Talking to X, he wrote, “Yesterday I was at a function organized by a prominent Tai Ahom youth organization. I demanded a caste census in Assam on the lines of the Bihar and Rajasthan models. We need to ensure that the SC, ST, OBC, and other minority communities receive dignity and justice.”
The remarks were made by Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday in Assam's Golaghat district at the 7th annual convention of the TAIPA central committee.
Rajasthan's chief minister, Ashok Gehlot, declared on Friday that the state would undertake a caste-based census, similar to Bihar and Rajasthan.
Gehlot spoke to the media after attending a party gathering in Jaipur and said, “Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, made the system for counting castes during the Congress session in Raipur, and we will use it here. Like Bihar, the government of Rajasthan will likewise carry out a caste census. We'll use the idea that everyone should participate in accordance with their population. Caste-based census instructions would be provided, similar to those in Bihar.”
