Jorhat Suicide Case: Not a case of Honey Trapping or Blackmail, says Top Cop

The Jorhat ASP was speaking to the media today about the recent suicide of an elderly man after an intimate video of him with a much younger woman went viral on the internet.

Desk: The assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of
Jorhat in Assam on Sunday flatly dismissed the notion of honey trapping or
blackmailing, stating that preliminary findings in the case do not point to it.
The police officer did, however, state that the accused may have attempted to
generate money by selling the tapes to pornographic websites.

The Jorhat ASP was
speaking to the media today about the recent suicide of an elderly man after an
intimate video of him with a much younger woman went viral on the internet.

"You may be aware of
the recent case in which an obscene video has been widely shared on social
media," he remarked. In this regard, on May 1, a young woman filed a case
numbered 215/23 at the Jorhat Sadar Police Station under sections 328, 376, and
354 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) read with sections 67, 67 (A) of the
Information Technology (IT) Act. We initiated an investigation into the issue
and examined the videos that were shared online. We quickly detained everyone
involved in the case."

"We found information
about two people, Kishaloi Sharma, originally from Margherita but was staying
in Jorhat, and Abhishek Kashyap, a resident of Jorhat," said the Jorhat
ASP. Kishaloi Sharma has been detained and taken into police custody. You may
also be aware of the case of an older man who committed suicide on May 5 under
the jurisdiction of the Pulibor Police Station in Jorhat. We believe the two
incidents are connected. We are investigating both situations at the same
time."

"During our
investigation, we discovered that the accused young woman had relations with
both of our suspects, Abhishek and Kishaloi, and they had recorded their
intimate acts," he added. The recordings were not created under duress or
without consent, and they were later shared on social media and other
pornographic websites. So far, our investigations have discovered the
following, and we will keep you updated as the inquiry progresses."

color:black">In another disclosure, the chief cop stated that preliminary
inquiries into the case indicate to the act of filming the tapes for enjoyment
purposes only. "It does not appear that they had any objective in mind
when they recorded the videos," he stated. We believe this was done for
their own amusement. The recordings, however, were published to pornographic
websites and social media, and we are now investigating how that
happened." He stated that there could have been an ulterior motive of
selling the footage to pornographic websites to gain money.

It should be remembered
that a 72-year-old man in Assam's Jorhat committed suicide lately after a video
of him in a compromising position with a college-going woman leaked online.

color:black">According to sources, the young woman is accused of entrapping the
elderly man and engaging in sexual intercourse with him, the film of which she
posted on a pornographic website.

Darshana Bharali, the
accused girl, allegedly covertly recorded the deed on her phone and posted it
to a porn site. The video subsequently became viral in the area, forcing the
elderly guy to take extreme measures since he couldn't face the embarrassment
it brought to his family, according to reports.

The girl had previously
captured other guys, had sexual interactions with them, and uploaded their
private recordings to porn websites, according to information obtained. The act
sparked outrage in the community, with the deceased's relatives seeking harsh
punishment for the accused girl.
