Nagaon district administration is conducting a large eviction drive on 1200 bighas (almost 397 acres) of land on December 19. The Nagaon district administration's eviction effort has been underway in Batadrava since the morning.

The eviction drive will take place in major regions such as Hai Dubi, Jamai Basti, Shanti Jan Bazar, and others.

A big number of administrative officials and police officers have been dispatched. Until now, peaceful eviction campaigns have been underway.

Digital Desk: The Nagaon District Administration in Assam carried out a huge eviction drive today at the Bhumuraguri Grazing Reserve, Jamai Basti, Rampur, and Kadamoni areas. Encroachers have taken over more than 980 bighas of land.

As a precaution, the state government asked the adjoining Morigaon district administration to be on high alert to assist with the eviction drive.

According to district administration officials, roughly 1,000 accused encroacher households received notifications in October urging them to clear the land. The civil administration and police have taken all necessary precautions to ensure that the eviction drive proceeds peacefully and without incident. At Batadraba, around 800 security men have been deployed.

It has been reported that the eviction drive would take place today in various sections of Batadrava. The eviction drive will take place in major regions such as Hai Dubi, Jamai Basti, Shanti Jan Bazar, and others.

Several administrative officials and police officers have been dispatched. Until now, peaceful eviction campaigns have been underway.

The administration has publicly announced the eviction drive and has advised inhabitants to depart the area after gathering their possessions.

As a precaution, the state government has ordered the adjoining Morigaon district administration to be on high alert to cooperate with the eviction campaign. The Batadrava Than Management Committee has praised the aforementioned eviction drive.

Reportedly, the announcement of the eviction drive has sparked outrage among local people.

According to district administration officials, over 1,000 accused encroacher households got notifications in October ordering them to vacate the land.

According to another source, the civil administration and police have been taking all necessary precautions to ensure that the eviction drive goes off without a hitch.

Satya Raj Hazarika, DIG of Assam Police's Central Range, and members of the civil service are in command of the operation.

On September 12, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assam Assembly that 4,449 families had been forcibly relocated from their homes across the state since the BJP-led administration entered office for the second time in May of last year due to alleged encroachment.

CM stated that the government did not investigate the citizenship of evicted families to see whether they were Indian citizens or foreigners.

Furthermore, he claimed that the government was "unaware" if the households who had intruded on government property had become homeless as a result of erosion, a conclusion reached by the vast majority of such victims.

According to the chief minister, the right to property is not a basic right, and rights such as "Shelter over Head" are only available for legitimate occupations.

The impacted people have asked the government to make other arrangements for them, and they will continue to work with the administration.

Clearing encroachment, particularly on sattra land, was a significant campaign concern for the BJP in the 2014 assembly election.

This is the second major large-scale eviction drive, the first occurring in September 2021 in the Darrang district's Dhalpur area, which resulted in violence, resulting in the deaths of two people and the injuries of over 20 more.
