Digital Desk: One individual has been arrested in connection with Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora's death threat.
Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh confirmed this on Thursday. "Nip Pratim Baruah (31) has been identified as the accused, who was detained in Gaurisagar, Sivasagar district, based on strong evidence," DGP Singh wrote on X, informing the public of his confinement
Following an inquiry, the CID identified the user behind the social media account that submitted the threat. The user claimed to have put an explosive device in the minister's lodgings with the assistance of the proscribed militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).
DGP Singh took the post to X, “Sri Nip Pratim Baruah (age-31yrs.), S/O- Sri Haren Baruah, Vill.- Bamun Moran Gaon, PS- Gaurisagar, Dist.- Sivasagar has been picked up for the Facebook post threatening the Hon Minister. The detention is based on substantial evidence.”

It should be noted that a Facebook user going by the name Pranash Shandilya, claiming to be a member of the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), posted on the comments section of a regional news portal that a plan was hatched to plant a bomb in the quarters of Atul Bora, who is in charge of agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary, Assam Accord implementation, border protection, and development.
Following the discovery of the incident, Assam DGP GP Singh asked the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to file a criminal case against the user and take appropriate legal action against him.
