The victim, identified as Barnali Baurah Saikia, reportedly went on vacation to Nigeria on October 28. For the next three days, there was no word from the victim's relatives.
On the fourth day, nevertheless, the victim was able to contact her relatives and let them know about her condition.
Barnali claims that she was abducted from the Nigerian airport by a man called King, who also took her passport and visa.
When Barnali's family was unable to get in touch with her after she arrived in Nigeria, they became worried. They then received a call requesting a ransom payment in lakhs to release her.
The victim's family contacted the Dispur Police to start an investigation after receiving the ransom call.
According to the first information received, the family of the victim filed a formal complaint at the Dispur Police Station. They stated that Barnali Baurah Saikia's return ticket was issued by Swami Nayan Saikia on October 13 at 10:45 PM; however, King prevented Barnali from getting to the airport.
Reportedly, the Nigerian man named King met Barnali Baurah Saikia's family in Guwahati six months ago.
However, whether King kidnapped Barnali for money or whether there is another mystery behind the crime will be disclosed after the police conduct a probe.
Meanwhile, the police have taken appropriate actions concerning the incident and are attempting to return Barnali to Assam.
