Sarupathar MLA proposes sports academy in Lovlina’s village

Golaghat: BJP MLA of Sarupathar Biswajit Phukan sent a proposal to the Assam Government to set up a sports academy in the name of boxer Lovlina Borgohain at Sarupathar.

Speaking to the media persons, MLA Phukan said, “Sarupathar has a lot of potential in the field of sports. We have boxers, athletes, and footballers in the district, so a proposal was sent to the State government to construct a sports academy in Lovlin Borgohain’s name near her village to support the talents.”

“We have already spotted 40 bighas of government land in Naharbari village, which is only 2 kilometres away from Borgohain’s homeland, for the suggested sports academy,” added Phukan.

Further, Mr Phukan asserted he is hopeful that the Assam government will set up the sports academy in the designated place to encourage the budding talents.

Speaking about the construction of the motorable road to women pugilist village, Lovlina’s Father Tiken Borgohain said, “I am proud of my daughter, before the villagers had appealed to the concerned authorities many a times, but it has taken no initiative, but today because of my daughter the villagers get relieved from this muddy road.”

“I am thankful to the MLA of Sarupathar for taking the initiative to set up a sports academy here in Sarupathar,” added Mr Borgohain.

Mr Borgohain asserted that Lovlina is expected to reach home in the second week of August.

On July 30, women pugilist Lovlina Borgohain defeated former world champion Chinese Nien-Chin Chen to become the first among the nine Olympian Indian boxers to be assured of at least a bronze medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics for India.
