Desk: Shrinkhal Chaliha, the head of the Veer Lachit Sena, was released from
jail in Assam's Sivasagar district on Monday night after being imprisoned for
about a month and a half.
He was
re-arrested on May 3 by police near the entrance of Sivasagar district jail
under the National Security Act (NSA) after obtaining an order from the
District Chief Judicial Magistrate, just hours after being freed on bail in an
extortion case.
According
to accounts, a police van escorted him to his apartment at 11 p.m. yesterday,
after more than 45 days.
It should be noted that Shrinkhal Chaliha was re-arrested under NSA on
May 3, just hours after being released on bail in an extortion case.
Chaliha informed the
reporters following his re-arrest, "I was granted bail by the court after
the prosecutor couldn't provide any evidence against me." Some top
officials came to the jail last night and plotted against me. I was arrested
again today. This is a "democracy murder." This government serves the
non-Assamese people."
Chaliha
was earlier detained in Sivasagar in an extortion and businessman abuse case
and released on bail. The Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Sivasagar granted
his bail application.
