Digital Desk: The UGC has recently has recently has given recognition to the Assamese department of Visva Bharati University at Santiniketan to turn into an independent teaching department. The purpose of this milestone is to promote educational and cultural facilities of Assamese studies.
Of the proposed faculty positions, the UGC has sanctioned 4 faculty position, three
for assistant professor and 1 for an associate professor. Formal notification was made through an email to the university registrar.
The university has prepared a proposal in March last year applying for the creation of efficient and demanding Assamese department in the university. The reorganization is a landmark moment in its history, strengthening its cadmic framework. The last step involves gaining final approval from Finance ministry, crucial for the implementing sanctioned expansion.
This recognition by UGC paves the way for fresh research opportunities as well as for teaching and other cultural endeavors to help consolidate the richness of the Assamese language and literature at Visva Bharati University.
Reacting to this, the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on social media that it is noteworthy that the approval for establishing a fully fledged Assamese department at Visva Bharat University has been approved; we are committed to promote our classical language worldwide. This milestone is a statement to the Government 's commitment to promoting Assamese and taking the language to new heights.
