Digital Desk: Between 2022 and 24, 15 ragging-related complaints were registered at Gauhati University, a major university in Northeast India and one of Assam's most prestigious educational institutes. GU became one of the top eight universities across India as a ragging hotspot.
Meanwhile, Kolkata's Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (West Bengal) topped the list of States as ragging hotspots with 75 complaints. Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) registered 75 complaints, while Banaras Hindu University (Varanasi) 42, University of Lucknow (Lucknow) 40, Berhampur University (Odisha) 31, University of Allahabad (Allahabad) 21, and Jadavpur University in Kolkata (West Bengal) registered 16 complaints of ragging.
The Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE) published the report "State of Ragging in India 2022-24" on Tuesday. The report analyzes ragging incidents registered across India's educational institutions for the period 2022-24.
The report said that a total of 51 deaths were registered between the year 2022-24, with 20 deaths in 2024 alone.
The top five colleges with the most complaints in 2024 are the University of Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), MKCG Medical College (Odisha), Banaras Hindu University Campus (Uttar Pradesh), Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur), MGM Medical College and Hospital (Jharkhand).
