Digital Desk: Election results for the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) are still counting.
According to sources, the ruling BJP is now leading in 23 of the 26 Council seats.
On Sunday, the results of 154 candidates who ran in the KAAC elections will be announced, and vote counting is underway in Diphu, Bokajan, and Hamren.
The Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district administrations have put stringent security measures and close supervision on the counting process.
During the KAAC election on Wednesday, violence erupted at two polling booths in the Duar Amla council constituency in West Karbi Anglong district, according to police.
As per police reports, an enraged mob damaged two voting stations' vote boxes and set a substantial amount of ballot papers on fire. Security personnel was obliged to fire into the air to maintain control of the situation. Following the incident, a large security presence was deployed in the area.
On June 10, two polling booths were re-polled.
