Old DC office to be demolished and made an open-space area, says CM Sarma
Within ten days, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) office and the State Bank of India (SBI) branch will also shift to Panbazar, Kachari.

Digital Desk: The Kamrup (metro) Deputy Commissioner's office has moved to a new location at Hengrabari, Khadi Haat, and has begun operations there. The moving procedure was finished on Monday, and as of today, the office is operating from its new site. All of the Kamrup (metro) DC's office staff found it difficult to say goodbye to their old workplace in Panbazar, Kachari. Assam's then-chief minister, Bishnuram Medhi, led the construction of this office, which started in 1954. The office opened its doors on June 12, 1956. Obviously, it was the Kamrup district's DC office at the time.

The Kamrup (rural) DC's office was moved to Amingaon following the division of the Kamrup district into Kamrup (metro) and Kamrup (rural) in 2003, while the Kamrup (metro) DC's office remained in Panbazar, Kachari. 47 DCs have assumed leadership of the district's administration over the course of the DC's office in Panbazar's 68-year history.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the previous DC's office would be demolished starting today while speaking to the media at the complex housing the old DC's offices. Additionally, he stated that the Guwahati Police Commissionerate office would be moved to the Lower Assam Division Commissioner's office within seven days.

Within ten days, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) office and the State Bank of India (SBI) branch will also shift to Panbazar, Kachari. "There will be no demolition of the GMC office. A corner display would be created there "the Chief Minister said.

The office of the Forest Department near the Panbazar ropeway will be moved, although the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court will remain unaffected for the time being. After the offices are shifted, the Chief Minister stated that the 5-7 bighas of vacant land will be turned into a public park where people can visit and take in the Brahmaputra's natural beauty. Later, an effort to improve the area might be undertaken.
