IND vs SL 1st ODI Match: Captain Rohit Sharma confirms no place for Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in Indian XI Squad
More than winning another bilateral series at home, India will be focused on preparing for this year's 50-over World Cup...

Digital Desk: The stage has been set for today's first ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati. Captain Rohit Sharma has declared that he will open the match with Shubman Gill. This implies that, after hitting Double-Hundred in the last match, Ishan Kisha will not be named to the Indian XI. Suryakumar Yadav is also expected to miss out since Rohit chooses Shreyas Iyer in his starting XI. Jasprit Bumrah has already been ruled out of the series.

"We're disappointed that we won't be able to play Ishan Kishan. "We have to give Gill a fair go," Rohit said.

The first ODI will be played on January 10, 2023, at 1:30 PM IST. The match will take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

What to predict from PITCH: In Guwahati, batting-friendly surfaces have been the norm. Early dusk in the winter could bring dew into the picture sooner than planned, making chasing the captain's preferred option.
India vs. Sri Lanka - India's Playing XI: More than winning another bilateral series at home, India's focus will be on preparing for this year's 50-over World Cup. This series against Sri Lanka, followed by one against visiting New Zealanders, provides India with ample time to fine-tune their lineup and try out new players.

India is likely to use three spin options. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar will provide the requisite depth for India, while Yuzvendra Chahal will be the major spinner.
In Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj would most likely share new-ball duties. Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain, is the third pace option.

Player XI Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

The Indian captain is making his comeback after missing the last two ODIs and the SL T20Is owing to injury. The 35-year-old has announced that Shubhman Gill will open the first ODI with him. This means that Ishan Kishan, a double centurion, has been overlooked.

Shubman Gill has amassed 638 runs in 12 ODIs since his return, making it difficult to dismiss him. Gill has a century and four half-centuries in 12 innings at a strike rate of 102.57 and an average of 70.88.

Ishan, on the other side, scored 417 runs in 7 innings at a 59.57 ERA in 2022. In his most recent appearance, he also scored a double-century against Bangladesh.

Another tough choice will be between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav. Shreyas was India's best ODI scorer in 2022. However, SKY is the World's Best T20 Batsman and has dominated 2022, hitting his third century in a recent match.
