Digital Desk: The Indian football team, captained by Sunil Chhetri, suffered a crushing loss to Qatar. However, India put forth a valiant effort but was defeated 0-3 by strong Asian champions Qatar in their second encounter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup second-round qualifiers on Tuesday at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar.

Qatar would have won by a larger margin if they had not squandered multiple chances despite dominating the whole 90-minute period at Kalinga Stadium.

Moustafa Tarek Mashal (4th minute), Almeoz Ali (47th minute), and Yusuf Adurisag (86th minute) scored for the visitors.

India, looking for inspiration from their famous 0-0 draw with the same opponents four years ago, struggled to create scoring chances. They had a few chances near the conclusion of the first half, but they squandered them.

India had hoped for a great start to the game, but things did not go as planned right away. Amrinder's error created an opportunity for Akram Afif, but his shot was way wide. However, Qatar would quickly seize the lead once India's defence crumbled.

Qatar triumphs over India, extending its advantage at the top of the standings. Qatar questioned India's defence, which was simply not strong enough to stop the attacking team's advances. The back line failed to interpret Qatar's various plays and was not precise enough in its marking. India had a few decent opportunities as well but finally fell short.
