Digital Desk: Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were penalized for violating the 2023 IPL Code of Conduct during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Though both Kohli and Gambhir shook hands after the game, it became bitter later when LSG opener Kyle Mayers approached Kohli and talked. LSG mentor Gambhir appeared dissatisfied with it. Later visuals showed Kolhi and Gambhir fighting furiously with one another. Other players, including LSG captain K.L. Rahul, came in and separated the duo.
Amit Mishra, RCB captain Faf du Plessis, and LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya also stepped in to help calm things down.
"Lucknow Super Giants' Mentor Gautam Gambhir...Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Virat Kohli has been fined 100% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow," the IPL said in a release.
The duo was charged with a Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
In addition, Lucknow Super Giants bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been fined 50% of his match earnings for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
RCB bowled out LSG for 108 after reaching 126/9. RCB had won by 18 runs. Rahul's attempt at scoring in the final over failed due to injury.
When LSG and RCB met in an IPL 2023 match in Bengaluru, Gambhir's gesture hushed' the crowd.
