    Digital Desk: A day after the official inauguration of the 37th National Games in Goa, lifter Phandom Ranibala began the Manipur gold medal account with a second-to-none performance in the women's weightlifting competition.

    At the 37th National Games in Goa, Phamdom Ranibala of Manipur won gold in women's weightlifting, breaking the previous national record in the 55 kg category. 

    At the competition at Campal Open Ground in Panjim, Phandom Ranibala, a representative of Manipur in the 55kg category, broke Mirabai's record of 86 kg in the snatch and recorded 106 kg in the clean and jerk to win first place.

    The 37th National Games began on October 25 and will continue till November 9, 2023. 

    At the 37th National Games, which are currently taking place in Goa, Manipur is represented by 560 participants, including 406 players (180 men and 226 women), 76 coaches, 56 team managers, and 22 MOA officials. Of the 48 disciplines, Manipur athletes are competing in 26.

    Previously, Manipur placed ninth with 50 medals from the 36th National Games in Gujarat last year, which included 20 gold, 10 silver, and 20 bronze in 21 different sports.
