Digital Desk: India clinched its fourth medal at the Paris Olympics with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Spain in the men’s hockey bronze medal match. This win marks back-to-back bronze medals for India in hockey at the Olympics, continuing a proud tradition in the sport.

The match was a nail-biter, with Spain initially taking the lead through Marc Miralles, who converted a penalty stroke past Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. Despite a strong effort from India, they missed an opportunity to equalize from a long free hit, and Spain threatened to extend their lead.

However, India’s resolve shone through in the second quarter. Harmanpreet Singh stepped up when it mattered, scoring a crucial penalty corner to level the score. Moments later, another penalty corner was awarded to India following a back stick appeal against Spain. Harmanpreet once again demonstrated his skill, scoring his second goal to give India a 2-1 lead.

Spain came close to leveling the match, but a penalty corner goal was disallowed, and they were unable to break through India’s defense. Despite a few near-misses from the Indian side, they held firm through the final quarter, clearing a late penalty corner scare and securing the bronze medal.

Indian head coach, who had taken over the team during challenging times, praised his players for their effort and advised them to stay humble. His leadership and the team’s determination were key to this success, marking a significant achievement for Indian hockey on the Olympic stage.
