Virat Kohli equals Sachin Tendulkar's Massive Record with his 45th ODI Century
Virat Kohli currently has 20 ODI tons in his possession.

Digital Desk: Is there a more beautiful sight on the cricket field than Virat Kohli in full flow? After the former India captain's recent heroics, the spectators at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati would scream a resounding 'Yes'. Kohli smashed his 45th ODI ton in 80 balls against Sri Lanka in the opening ODI on Tuesday. His 73rd international century came in three forms. He has 27 Test tons and one T20I ton. Kohli raced to the triple-figure mark in front of a raucous crowd at the Assam venue, smashing 10 fours and one six. Kohli eventually finished with 113 from 87 balls (12x4s, 1x6) in the 49th over.

Virat Kohli currently has 20 ODI tons in his possession. He has matched the record set by batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar, who also has 20 hundreds in the format at home - the most by any hitter. Kohli became the fastest to 12500 ODI runs in 257 innings on his way to his 73rd international ton.

Kohli broke another record, this time surpassing Tendulkar. Kohli now has nine hundreds versus Sri Lanka after his 45th ODI century. It's the most tons an Indian hitter has ever scored against the islanders. Prior to the first ODI, Kohli and Tendulkar shared the record. Tendulkar and Kohli have each scored nine tonnes against Australia and the West Indies.

After openers Rohit Sharma (83) and Shubman Gill (70) set the tone for India, Virat came in to bat in the 20th over. After coming down the track confidently, he smashed his maiden boundary in the 22nd over against Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka with excellent wristwork. Kohli was unstoppable from then on, despite two reprieves. Kohli was dropped in the 37th over by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Kasun Rajitha after reaching his half-century in 47 balls. He was given another respite in the 43rd over, this time by Rajitha's bowling. Shanaka dropped him this time as he was batting on 81.

Kohli's innings was distinguished by grace rather than overwhelming force. Despite having a strike rate of over 131, Kohli rarely batted aerially. He played along the ground while keeping the scorecard moving quickly.
