Digital Desk: Former India coach Ravi Shastri expressed his clear view on if MS Dhoni should come out of retirement and play in the WTC final against Australia in June.
The wicketkeeper position has been a source of concern for India recently, with Rishabh Pant's absence impacting the squad during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Reportedly, India has confirmed the team for the one-off Test against Australia at the Oval, with KS Bharat named as the designated wicketkeeper. KL Rahul is also on the roster, and many believe he can be trusted with the gloves throughout the game.
During a discussion on Cricinfo, Shastri was asked if India should consider MS Dhoni as well, considering his fitness. Dhoni declared his retirement from Test cricket in 2014.
The former India coach proceeded by mentioning how Dhoni's approach has inspired many young wicketkeepers in the country.
"Oh, yes. He's shown a lot of young keepers in the country how to keep behind the stumps, how to move merely for someone who doesn't play first-class cricket to pitch up." Shastri stated during the discussion.
When asked if Dhoni would truly think about coming out of retirement for the one-off Test, Shastri said it wouldn't be feasible since the former Indian captain doesn't change his views.
"Nah. MS puts his mind up, and he sticks to it. To leave Test cricket, where he could easily have played for a year or year and a half, he would have loved that 100 Test match mark, big crowd, lovely celebrations, nice presentation, walk around the crowd, say goodbye to everyone...he doesn't want that. "Hands up, new man is there, let him be," Shastri replied.
On next line, MS Dhoni's CSK will face Punjab Kings at Chennai on April 30th at Chennai.
