Bajrang, who earned a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, narrowly defeated Puerto Rican Sebastian C. Rivera 11-9 on points in one of the 65 kg bronze medal matches.

Bajrang, who fell to American John Michael Diakomihalis in the quarterfinals, advanced to the bronze medal match by defeating Armenian Vazgen Tevanyan in the repechage round, winning 7-6 on points.

It is to be noted that Bajrang has already won three bronze medals overall. Earlier, the well-known Indian wrestler took home bronze medals in 2013, silver in 2018, and bronze in 2019.
India sent a 30-member team to the current World Championships, but they performed poorly, winning only two medals.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya, who won the silver medal at the Olympics in Tokyo, crashed out early and was unable to place on the podium.

Moreover, Vinesh Phogat earned a bronze medal at the World Championships in the women's 53kg division, joining Bajrang.

Vinesh won the bronze medal by defeating Swedish opponent Emma Malmgren 8-0.
