"He is the right guy to lead the Indian test team": Yuvraj Singh

In an interview with Sports18, he explained, "You gotta prepare someone. Mahi didn't appear to be captain out of nowhere, but they made it right? He then progressed ".

Digital Desk: This year, Virat Kohli stepped down as India's Test captain, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Rohit Sharma as his replacement, with bowler Jasprit Bumrah taking over as vice-captain. However, former India captain Yuvraj Singh believes the national selectors should name Rishabh Pant as the country's next Test captain.

In an interview with Sports18, he explained, "You gotta prepare someone. Mahi didn't appear to be captain out of nowhere, but they made it right? He then progressed ".

"Keeper is always a brilliant thinker as he always has the finest vision on the ground," he said.

"You select a young man who has the potential to become a future captain, give him time, and don't seek magic in the first six to twelve months. You have to faith in the younger men to get the job done, in my opinion," the former cricketer said.

Notably, Pant's maturity was also praised by the 2011 World Cup winner, who dubbed him the "perfect player to head the Test team."

"At that age, I was immature, and Virat was immature when he was captain. Pant, on the other hand, is maturing with time," he added.

"I'm not sure what the support staff thinks, but I think he's the appropriate individual to lead the Test team," he continued.

Referring to the wicketkeeper-batsman as an upcoming legend, Yuvraj said, "You have four Test hundreds already and you can do that. In terms of best wicket-keeper batsman, I see Rishabh could be the future legend."

Pant has played in 30 Tests since making his Test debut in 2018, accumulating 1920 runs (including four hundred and nine half-centuries) with a top score of 159.
