Digital Desk: Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Khan has been appointed as the ICC General Manager – Cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the news on Friday. Khan succeeds Geoff Allardice, who served as General Manager for eight years before being promoted to Chief Executing Officer at ICC.

Khan has earlier served as Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and Chance to Shine and will take over as ICC's General Manager from next month.

Expressing his pleasure over his appointment Khan stated that he is happy to see that the governing body is committed to upgrade the Women's cricket. He also committed to work for the development of the Women's cricket team during his tenure in the position.

"I am honoured to be joining the ICC; I can't wait to get started and collaborate with our Members to strengthen and grow our sport. I'm particularly encouraged by the ICC's commitment to the development of the women's game," he said.

"In 2017, we were fortunate to host several ICC Women's Cricket World Cup matches at Leicestershire, which was a significant moment in the game's history.  I'm excited to play a role in really accelerating that growth over the next decade," Khan added.

Meanwhile, Geoff Allardice welcomed Wasim Khan to the position and praised his in-depth knowledge of the sport, which he believes will aid the ICC in implementing its global growth strategy.

"I am delighted to welcome Wasim to the ICC. He brings extensive knowledge of our sport and its stakeholders, and his firsthand knowledge of the international cricket landscape will be invaluable as we implement the ICC's global growth strategy and enter a new events cycle," Allardice said.
