WFH policy ends in TCS, leads to resignation by several female employees; reports company

Digital Desk: The tech industry seems to appear to be straining to summon workers back to work since many employees are struggling to adhere to the new policy. TCS is one of the organisations that is asking its staff to return to the workplace and work. 

HR head of TCS, Milind Lakkad, said in the company's annual report that many female employees had departed for not getting the freedom to Work from Home.

According to Milind Lakkad, the corporation encouraged workers to return to the office but has been watching more resignations from female employees who wished to work from home recently.

He additionally stated that while this could be one of the explanations, there is no link to discrimination. TCS is said to have lost more than 20% of its personnel in the preceding fiscal year. This figure could include both genders. The IT firm has yet not stated how many female employees may have departed the company as a result of the policy. 

"Historically, at TCS, women's departure has been comparable to or lower than men's departures, so this is unusual." There could be other reasons, but I would guess that working from home during the pandemic reset the domestic arrangements for some women, keeping them from returning to work even after things had returned to normal," he said.

He also stated that TCS's goal of promoting gender diversity will not be altered and that the company will continue to hire more people of both genders. 

According to the company, it now employs over 60,000 individuals, with women accounting for 35% of the workforce. Furthermore, the survey indicated that three-quarters of TCS's top positions are held by women.

TCS has also acknowledged that around 20% of TCS employees have returned to work, and the company's CEO, Rajesh Gopinathan, has stated that the company will continue to follow its 25x25 strategy in the future. This model essentially states that just 25% of its worldwide workforce is expected to arrive at work, with workers spending only 25% of their time in the office.

Rajesh Gopinathan further added that "As the world gradually returns to normal following the Covid-19 pandemic, TCS resumes physical engagements as well. Almost 20% of TCS employees, or over 100,000 TCSers, have returned to work. This is much more than the 5% required at the height of the pandemic. Client visits to TCS sites throughout the world have resumed, as have in-person meetings. The corporation is dedicated to the 25x25 concept and will implement it gradually. However, staff would have to return to the office first."
