Ravi’s remarks come a day after chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s political secretary MP Renukacharya called on the state government to outlaw madrasas, claiming that they teach issues “objected to country’s interests.”
Digital Desk: The sale of “
halal” meat, according to BJP National General Secretary
CT Ravi, amounts to “economic jihad.” “Why should Hindus buy meat from Muslims when Muslims refuse to buy meat from them?” he said.
Ravi inquired, adding that if Muslims agree to eat non-halal meat, Hindus will also agree to eat halal meat. ‘Halal’ is a Muslim method of slaughtering meat. Notably, the meat issue is the latest in a long line of divisive issues raised by the BJP and its affiliate organizations.
Ravi’s remarks come a day after chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s political secretary MP Renukacharya called on the state government to outlaw madrasas, claiming that they teach issues “objected to country’s interests.”
Meanwhile, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy has stated that the government must take action against miscreants who encourage Hindus not to buy from Muslim traders.
“Despite such obvious attempts by special interests to communalize issues, the government has taken no action. It should keep in mind that it is the government of 6.5 crores of Karnataka residents. I’ve seen some provocative posts-old on WhatsApp; those responsible should be arrested and dealt with according to the law. I appeal to Hindu youths not to let the state’s harmony be shattered,” Kumaraswamy explained.
In the midst of these disputes, a group of intellectuals has written to Bommai, urging him to crack down on growing hate incidents and hate messages. “It is a heinous crime to deliberately infuse religious hatred in Karnataka, which is regarded as a garden of peace and harmony,” they wrote.
They also place several demands, including that girls should be allowed to wear the hijab, discrimination against Muslim traders at fairs and festivals be stopped, and that those who seek to inflame communal hatred be dealt with harshly, and also proposed to teach the Bhagwad Gita in schools be scrapped.
