Assam and the entire northeastern region of India are in seismic zone V, which is the highest seismic zone in India.

Digital Desk: Today, morning around 11:06am an Earthquake with 5.6 magnitude shook Imphal followed by tremors across Assam and various Northeastern states according to the United States Geological Survey. 

The earthquake hit near Imphal in Manipur at ten kilometers deep below the epicenter. It was located 29km from Chongdan in Manipur. The 5.6 magnitude earthquake affected both India and Myanmar as the affected regions.
There is no reported damage at this time but additional information is still awaited. 

The northeastern part of India along with Assam exists inside seismic zone V which represents the most dangerous seismic region within the nation. The region stands among the most tectonically restless areas throughout the entire world.
