The executive committee unanimously selected Choudhury during a meeting on Saturday.

Digital Desk: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appointed Dr. Bhaben Choudhury as the acting state president of Assam, five months after he was replaced from the position in September 2024. Choudhury, Joint Secretary of AAP's National Committee, was appointed due to the prolonged absence of the party's permanent president, Manoj Dhanowar.

The executive committee unanimously selected Choudhury during a meeting on Saturday.

After assuming the position, Choudhury said that Assam is witnessing a rise in political violence and targeted defamation campaigns against opposition leaders and their family members. He also condemned the recent attack on Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain.

Criticising the BJP-led government, Bhaben Choudhury said that it is systematically killing democracy by silencing opposition voices.

Choudhury added that the BJP government is using fear tactics as the Assam Assembly election is approaching. He also condemned the Biplab Sharma Commission Report on the APSC scam as a politically motivated document.
